As October draws to a close, we start searching for Bible Verses for Thanksgiving. It’s a time for reflections before we launch into the next New Year.
The harvest is in and communities get together in churches (or they used to) and celebrate what GOD has provided them with over the summer.
I particularly remember that the whole village I lived in (in England) would get together and help the farmers gather in the hay. As kids, I think we created havoc in building hay bale houses when we were supposed to be stacking them in a certain way so that they could easily be loaded on to trucks!
After all the hay bales were safely stashed away in the numerous barns around the village, the adults would get together for the Annual Harvest Supper. I remember being there only as a waitress!!
They were good days.
Anyway, what about Bible Verses for Thanksgiving? Here we go with a few and they include verses that “say” Thank You!
May the LORD reward you for your kindness
How great is your goodness, which you have stored up for those who fear you, which you bestow in the sight of men on those who take refuge in you.
May the LORD, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge reward you fully for you have done.
O come, let us sing unto the LORD: let us make joyful noise to the rock of our salvation. Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto Him with psalms. For the LORD is a great God, and a great King above all gods. In His hand are the deep places of the earth: the strength of the hills is His also. The sea is His, and He made it: and His hands formed the dry land. O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the LORD our maker.
May the LORD now show you kindness and faithfulness, and I too will show you the same favour because you have done this.
2 Samuel 2:6
Lift up a great shout of joy to the LORD!
Go ahead and do it—everyone, everywhere!
…I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you…
Give thanks to the LORD, for He is good;
His love endures forever.
Because of the service by which you have proved yourselves, men will praises God for the obedience that accompanies your confession of the gospel of Christ, and for your generosity in sharing with them and with everyone else. And in their prayers for you their hearts will go out to you, because of the surpassing grace God has given you.
2 Corinthians 9:13-14
I always thank God for you because of His grace given to you in Christ Jesus.
1 Corinthians 1:4
They will celebrate your abundant goodness and
joyfully sing of your righteousness.
…I thank God for you–the God I serve with a clear conscience, just as my ancestors did. Night and day I constantly remember you in my prayers.
2 Timothy 1:3
Yours, O LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendour,
for everything in heaven and earth is Yours.
Yours, O LORD, is the kingdom;
you are exalted as head over all.
Wealth and honour come from You;
You are the ruler of all things.
In Your hands are strength and power to exalt
and give strength to all.
Now, our God, we give You thanks,
and praise Your glorious name.
1 Chronicles 29:11-13
The LORD bless you and keep you;
The LORD make His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you;
The LORD lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace.
I will praise God’s name in song and glorify Him with thanksgiving.
From them will come songs of thanksgiving and the sound of rejoicing.
I will add to their numbers, and they will not be decreased;
I will bring them honour, and they will not be disdained.
Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking,
which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving.
Now I’ll worship you passionately and bring to you my sacrifice of praise, drenched with thanksgiving!
Sing out with songs of thanksgiving to the Lord!
Let’s sing our praises with melodies overflowing!
“Amen! Praise and glory, wisdom and thanksgiving, honour, power, and might belong to our God forever and ever! Amen!”
But I will give all my thanks to you, Lord, for you make everything right in the end. I will sing my highest praise to the God of the Highest Place!
How could I be silent when it’s time to praise you?
Now my heart sings out loud, bursting with joy— a bliss inside that keeps me singing,
“I can never thank you enough!”
So now I constantly boast in you. I can never thank you enough!
Why don’t you bring Me the sacrifices I desire?
Bring Me your true and sincere thanks,
and show your gratitude by keeping your promises to Me,
the Most High.
So I’m thanking you with all my heart,
with gratitude for all you’ve done.
I will do everything I’ve promised you, Lord.
Wherever I go I will thank you, my God.
Among all the nations they will hear my praise songs to you.
So lift your hands and give thanks to God for his marvellous kindness and for his miracles of mercy for those he loves!
Psalm 107:15 AND Psalm 107:21
So there we have it! More than 20 Bible Verses for Thanksgiving. There are many more and if you read the Psalms in The Passion Translation (TPT) you will begin to understand King David’s heart for our LORD – he was constantly worshiping and thanking Him. And that, my dear friends, is the lesson we learn.
